Neal Vitale

Neal Vitale is President and Chief Executive Officer of 1105 Media, Inc., an integrated business-to-business information and media company formed in April 2006 through the acquisition of 101communications, LLC, and Stevens Publishing. 1105’s offerings include print and online magazines, journals, and newsletters; seminars, conferences, and trade shows; educational and training courseware; and Web-based services.

Since mid-2001, Mr. Vitale has worked with the two private equity firms that are backing 1105, Nautic Partners (formerly Fleet Equity Partners) and Alta Communications (formerly Burr, Egan Deleage & Co.), on the evaluation of numerous business-to-business, healthcare, and consumer media, information, and services buyout transactions.

During that period of time, Mr. Vitale also served as a Director of several companies: MBI Publishing Company, a specialty book publisher and distributor; Construction Data Company, a regional provider of information to commercial construction professionals; Film Works Media, publisher of Below The Line, a newspaper serving the production community within the entertainment industry; Flying Adventures, a consumer magazine targeted to aircraft owner-pilots; and Wanderlust Media, creator of Navtones, exclusive voice content for navigation systems. He is a former director and Chairman of the Board of TJR Industries, the leading producer of events in America for woodworking enthusiasts, presenting approximately thirty shows (under the name of The Woodworking Shows) across the country each year.

From February 1999 through April 2001, Mr. Vitale was President and Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Marketing Group, America’s largest privately-held firm providing integrated marketing and promotional services to Fortune 500 and new economy clients. During his tenure, Aspen significantly expanded its array of service offerings, developed its integrated presence in the marketplace, and increased revenues through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions from under $140 million to approximately $300 million projected for 2001.

Mr. Vitale served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Petersen Publishing Company from its acquisition in September 1996 through June 1998. Over that period of time, Petersen:

Grew in revenues from approximately $220 million to over $300 million, and in EBITDA from $27 million to over $75 million, producing the highest margins reported among all publicly-traded consumer publishers;

Expanded its array of titles from fewer than eighty to more than 110, through both acquisition and internal development, and diversified its lines of business to include expanded trade show and consumer event activity, television production, merchandise and licensing, database and affinity group marketing, on-line commerce, and business-to-business publishing;

Went from a privately-held firm with debt of more than $300 million, to a publicly-traded entity (NYSE:PTN) with less than $140 million in debt and a total enterprise value of over $1 billion. In January 1999, Petersen was sold to EMAP for $1.5 billion. The return to initial investors is estimated at over eight times their original investment.

From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Vitale was employed by Cahners Publishing Company (now Reed Business Information), a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. and the world’s largest business-to-business publisher. Mr. Vitale held a variety of management positions at Cahners, and was a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Vice President of Consumer Publishing, where he helped assemble the division that was ultimately sold to Primedia (then-KIII) for over $180 million in 1995. Publications included American Baby, Modern Bride, Sail , and Power & Motor Yacht.

Vice President/General Manager of Variety, where he led the restructuring of the under-performing Variety and Daily Variety into a unified organization that became the model for growth and financial performance within all of Cahners.

Most recently, Group Vice President, Entertainment, where he was responsible for Variety, Daily Variety, Broadcasting & Cable, Moving Pictures International, On Production, Tradeshow Week, and Kemp’s. This division was the largest, fastest-growing, and most profitable at Cahners.

From 1984 to 1989, Mr. Vitale was Vice President and Partner at McNamee Consulting Company, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in publishing and direct marketing. Before McNamee, Mr. Vitale was Vice President and Associate Publisher of Art & Antiques; Director of Finance, Viare Publishing; and Business Manager, The New York Times Company Magazine Group.

Mr. Vitale received an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1979. Prior to attending Harvard, he was a newspaper journalist and an editor of technical books. He is a 1975 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mr. Vitale lives with his wife, Linda, and daughter, Marissa Claire, in Pacific Palisades, California. He is on the Board of Directors of the Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles, is a member of the Wine & Food Society of Hollywood, and is a diehard Boston Red Sox fan.
