Mr. Schaffer received his juris doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law in 1973. During his diverse legal career that now spans three decades, Schaffer has concentrated his practice on the general representation of not-for-profit, tax-exempt organizations with a particular emphasis on the activities of such organisations in the meetings, trade shows, hospitality and travel areas. Mr. Schaffer has represented clients in the sale and purchase of both large and small trade shows, and represents an association whose for-profit members produce many of the largest trade shows in the United States and overseas. In addition, he has been extensively involved in negotiating and litigating matters involving copyright lacy and licensing agreements for clients with ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, the leading performing rights organizations. A one-time college professor, Mr. Schaffer also taught at the University of Toledo College of Law during the 1980s, serving as a Co--Director of that institution's Civil Law Clinic. Mr. Schaffer continues to be a frequent speaker on topics of interest to associations and others, having participated as a faculty member for many years at the Institute of Organization Management of the United States Chamber of Commerce and having presented numerous programs to such organizations as the Association Forum of Chicagoland, the American Society of Association Executives, Meetings Professionals International, and many other organizations. lvlr. Schaffer is a graduate of Columbia College in New York, Washington University in St. Louis, and Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley, where he received his J.D. degree in 1973. He is a member of the Bars of the United States Supreme Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Ohio. |
