Leading for Impact: Building Skills for Continued Success

As you move into broader and more senior leadership roles, the intellectual and technical skills once so critical to your career growth take a back seat to different capabilities. In fact, the leadership skills needed by 2020, as articulated in the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs” report, will be emotional intelligence, people management, complex problem-solving and critical thinking, among others.

How prepared are you to effectively lead both now and in the future? If you want to lay the groundwork for your continued success, join your colleagues in this interactive 4-hour workshop designed exclusively with events industry leaders in mind.

    As a  participant you will:

    • Discover what skills you need to develop or strengthen by 2020.
    • Learn what specific capabilities are required to gain and retain both a seat and a voice at the leadership table.
    • Master the skills needed to become a trusted advisor across the enterprise.
    • Practice leveraging your use of emotional intelligence when working with individuals and teams
    • Learn where you need further development and practice.

Using a blend of lecture, small and large group discussion, case studies and role play, participants will learn from each other. You will also have an opportunity to strengthen your network by connecting with new colleagues and re-connecting with others. In addition, each participant will create a development commitment document before the end of the workshop.

Mentors and Sponsors: Understand the difference and maximize the benefits of both as you advance your career

Mentoring and sponsorship programs are both essential for career advancement—each have benefits, and some are more defined than others.  However, it is important to understand the difference between the two.  Although more women than men have multiple mentors, many studies have found that men are still more likely than women to have powerful sponsors.

This session will discuss the differences, challenges and benefits of how these relationships can help advance your career.  After an overview, a diverse panel of both mentors and mentees of various leadership levels will share their stories and drive home the importance of not only mentor/mentee relationships, but also how sponsors are essential for women’s advancement in the workplace.

Is It All in a Word?

“Strong,” “Demanding,” “Intimidating,” “Feminist”… the list goes on and on, and for professional women can either be said as a compliment or an insult.  Have you been told you were intimidating as a woman executive and somehow thought YOU had to change?  For a male executive, this is not a negative, but for a woman, somehow it implies that we are doing something wrong; we are attempting to overpower, or that we make it difficult to work or communicate with us.  This panel discussion will offer insights on how women can navigate and manage through the perception with the appropriate amount of assertiveness.
