Download Proposal for ISO Standard

A proposal for a new ISO standard on sustainability in event management based on the British Standard BS 8901 has been initiated by the British Standards Institute (BSI), and by the Associacao Brasileira de Normas Técnicas (ABNT). This standard is aimed to be developed within 30 months (for publication by Summer 2012), in time for the London Olympics in 2012. One of the main players in the development of the British Standard was the UK association EIA (Events Industry Alliance) which represents AEO (Association of Exhibition Organizers), AEV (Association of Event Venues) and AEC (Association of Exhibition Contractors). The aim of this new ISO standard proposal is to establish, implement, maintain and improve a sustainability management for events, with the proposed international title of “Specification for a sustainability management system for events”.

This new work item proposal (NWIP) was sent to all the national standardization bodies on the 25 May 2009 with the official closing date for voting being the 25 August 2009.

There is no official Technical Committee (TC) within ISO taking care of this project as none of the current TCs has the competency required. If the project is approved, a “Project Committee” will therefore be established, in liaison with the TC 207 (Environmental Management). This Committee will be a one-off, created solely for the purpose of this standard and discontinued thereafter.

Hot Air Ballooning, April 1
Beautiful hot air ballooning flights are a great way to see the best of Southern California. Pick up from the hotel is at 5:00pm on April 1 to start the coastal Del Mar Sunset flight. It is truly unforgettable. The flights are approximately one hour and have become the hallmark of ballooning in California. Flight patterns frequently take passengers over multimillion dollar properties in Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch and beautiful Del Mar and offer a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. Balloons do not travel over the ocean and, instead, drifting eastward as the sun sets. All panorama hot air balloon rides include complementary hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a jacket as the higher you go, the chillier it gets. Participants are requested to wear slacks and flat shoes. Return to the hotel by 8:30 p.m. Cost is $159.00 per person.
