Moving Forward Updates
Good news in planning for 2021 comes out of Nevada, as well as updates on testing from across the world, including airlines and airports. Plus, our friends at UFI and Explori have produced Part 1 of a new Global Recovery Insights report underwritten by SISO and a few more tidbits for you.
Testing:
- USC is collaborating with the city and county of LA to explore how inexpensive rapid COVID testing among first-responders and school-aged children could support reopening efforts. (10/27)
- JetBlue announced that it sees the development of inexpensive Covid antigen testing as the key to near-term recovery for the airline industry, ahead of vaccines. (10/27)
- Preflight coronavirus tests are getting passengers in the air. NPR covers how these advancements are making it easier to make travel plans a reality, rather than self-quarantining upon arrival. (10/26)
- Singapore is piloting pre-event antigen rapid testing ahead of Phase 3 with results within 15 minutes. (10/20)
- London's Heathrow Airport rolled out one-hour tests for passengers leaving Britain, in order to open up international travel. (10/20)
Everything Else:
- Part 1 of Global Recovery Insights 2020, produced by UFI and Explori and underwritten by SISO, outlines the way forward for business events with key findings, the impact of event cancellations, future attendance, and much more. The report is free for SISO Members (October)
- The 61st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show kicked off this week in Florida, a mega show demonstrating extensive health and safety protocols, including AllSecure and GBAC. (10/28)
- Clarion Events has acquired Quartz Events, a producer of invitation-only executive summits, which has fared well in transitioning customers online with its tech-enabled platform. (10/28)
- Nevada's Governor Sisolak announced that he is planning to allow Las Vegas venues to return to 50% capacity at the turn of the year, allowing for larger conventions and a boost to the state's economy. (10/26)
- Bipartisan legislation has been introduced (but is on hold until after the election) to provide comprehensive relief and recovery for the convention, trade show, entertainment, travel, and hospitality industries and its workers. (10/15)
A recent find, ballotpedia.org's tracker provides recent news, a map of active and expired travel restrictions, restrictions by state, federal travel restrictions, arguments about travel restrictions and general resources for citizens.
Coalition Updates
Go LIVE Together
Watch GLT's latest video for a recap of the progress it's made - and we've all helped achieve. From meeting with congresspeople, to writing the Business Events Recovery Act and advocating for issues that matter most to our community. GLT has empowered our industry to fight for ourselves and to help spread the word and amplify these important messages. We should be proud of this progress, but we will not stop!
Reminder: Share stories about cities easing limitations on public gatherings,
in-person events starting to move forward and more positive steps using hashtag, #GLTgoodNews.
Don't stop now, continue to support, promote, and add to GLT's progress. Download resource materials from the Go Live Together coalition toolkit.
COVID Relief Now Coalition
SISO continues to support the COVID Relief Now Coalition, both as a financial contributor and member of the steering committee. Its message to Congress is clear: We Need Relief Now! Congress and the administration must reach a bipartisan agreement on relief legislation, or too many companies and Americans will close forever and/or lose their pandemic unemployment insurance benefits.
Take action today. Download and share this new 30-second video ad via your social channels. Want more? Visit the Coalition toolkit for resources, download social media assets, use talking points, and call members of Congress and/or email your Congressional representatives and senators using this action alert.
