Krakoff Award Winner: 2019
CEO, Access Intelligence LLC
Don Pazour has led the strategy and growth of Access Intelligence for over a decade, taking magazine-centric businesses and converting them to an integrated media, web-centric group of market focused product clusters serving the media/marketing, energy/engineering, aerospace, and healthcare markets. The focus has been on providing best quality information and most effective marketing services to the company’s customers. Don and his team have built the business through countless launches and 18 acquisitions that have been bolted onto and integrated into the Phillips Business Information newsletter and magazine platform that Veronis Suhler Stevenson bought from Tom Phillips in late 2000. In 2010 the integrated, subscription revenue chemical and energy information business was sold to IHS. Since that time the company has leveraged its strong balance sheet and strong online market presence in its served markets to create high growth e-media and event revenue growth In 2011, AI completed the acquisitions of OR Manager for healthcare, Red7 media for media/marketing, and Cynopsis for the cable division of its media/marketing group. The 2012 acquisition of Leadscon and Daily Deal conferences positioned the company to serve the advanced marketing techniques and was followed up with the acquisition of Penton Media's marketing properties including among other brands, Chief Marketer and Multi Channel Merchant. Before joining Access Intelligence, Don worked at Miller Freeman, a subsidiary of United Business Media for 23 years where he was named CEO in 1997. His ascendance through the company included management of conferences, magazines, and high value information businesses. Don launched and grew Miller Freeman’s presence in the High Tech publishing sector, culminating with the acquisition of CMP Media in 1999. With the acquisition by Miller Freeman of Blenheim USA’s trade shows, Miller Freeman also became the largest trade show producer in the United States under his leadership. Don is a frequent speaker at Folio Magazine, American Business Media, Society of Independent Show Organizers, and Specialized Information Publishers Association events. He is vice chairman of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research, chairman of American Business Media’s government relations committee, board member of American Business Media, and past chairman and current Board member of the Society of Independent Show Organizers. He also serves on the Board of F + W Media, one of the largest independent special interest consumer book, web, and magazine publisher.
